texture

August 24, 2007

is the theme at blue bazaar this week. it was the perfect opportunity to experiment with texture paste (my 1st time). & on wednesday, as i watched bear making tracks in the playdough with thomas, i knew just what to do with the paste & he could even help me!

colour your world

August 18, 2007

i’ve been doing carol wingert‘s colour your world class at BPS. carol taught my 1st ever scrapbook class & she’s brilliant! if you ever have an opportunity to take one of her classes – do it! as we explored each colour, she provided wonderfully detailed notes, gave us a great insight into her creative process & shared lots of cool techniques. whilst carol created individual layouts for the class, we were free to do our own thing, so i decided to use a creative imaginations bare library. my cover design was inspired by the fabulous banner on ngaire’s beautiful blog

i kept the design of each colour book nice & simple – with patterned paper & journalling on the LHS & a photo on the RHS. here’s a peek at the yellow book

there are 11 other albums in the set – here’s a sample of their covers:

i’ll post some interior shots when they’re finished.

i’d love to hear about any online classes you’ve done & your thoughts about them.

Sharon Dale: Hi Catherine, I also did Carol's class and I just loved it. Her work is just gorgeous & I love working with colour! I do heaps of classes over at BPS and have been doing them for a few years now. One of my fave sites for classes. Love these little CI books you did in Carol's class. Saw them in the gallery but didn't realise they were yours. Love your photography too (very inspiring) and like checking out your blog too!

Alex: Hi, I too enjoy reading your blog and enjoy your photography. Just had to comment about online classes....I have just done the 'Hey Dad' class over at Kim Archers website. It was great and very inspiring. We created bookmarks, noodle boxes and layouts. It was a fabulous week of gift ideas. Have just got into the world of online classes with discovering Kims (shes a fav.) and will definately have to check out the one you recommend. Bye.

Kass: Hey Charleigh I too am a big fan of BPS classes. I always find them really useful for ideas and inspiration. I am looking forward to meeting Stacy herself in November. I can't imagine you'd need to take too many classes - you're so incredible yourself!! love Kass

Jaimie Emmerton: I have my hand up for shoe therapy - nothing like slipping on a pair of shoes to make a woman smile

the blue shirt

August 13, 2007

that’s become his new favourite! it’s a minature version of michael’s & i swear he’d wear it every day – if it didn’t end up so dirty & need washing.

i found it & a great pair of matching jeans in the DFO thomas cook outlet. gotta love that place!

Lee: Hey Charleigh it has been such a long time. Loving all your photos.

Monique Wye: We have the exact shirt here - and the same love of it! I even have a gorgeous TC pink one for the little miss! Such a great wearing brand! Love your blog. Monique

we’ve been fortunate to have marg & bill with us for 6 weeks this term. marg is a vise tutor & bill is an angel – literally! vise volunteers give their time & expertise to support the education of isolated children & their families (you can read more about vise here & here). they arrived at a time when i was worn down & exhausted from a long struggle with health issues & the stress associated with educating your own kids. because of them, i had the time to go to sydney, see a variety of specialists & find some alternate treatments that worked! because of them, i’ve returned feeling energised & hopeful about the future (rather than stressed about having to "catch up" 2 weeks of schoolwork). because of them, i can enjoy just being mama for awhile. i’m so grateful for the time we’ve had with them … their support has been such a blessing!

mimi: Sorry to hear you haven't been well, i hope you are feeling better now, thinking of you take care Mimi ox

new banner

August 9, 2007

after my 1st kiwiscraps event (august 2005), i had a fun morning with my BIL & twin nieces wandering around the north sydney foreshores & taking lots of photos. most have sat in a folder on the computer … until today. i had a chance to play & discovered the harbour shots looked fabulous when cropped panorama style (making them perfect for blog banners!)

each canvas is 6". they’ve been painted with a mixture of acrylic paint & iridescent medium then finished with silk prima flowers & buttons or brads. they also have ribbon hangers & co-ordinating patterned paper on the back.

i’d love to hear what you think of them!

Suzannah: these are sweet Charleigh...they'll sell like hotcakes!

HelenW: Love them! They'd be gorgeous as a set on the wall :)
