BB project

March 28, 2008

The theme at blue bazaar this week is girls so I created something special for my girl. The base is an A3 piece of chipboard that’s been coated with gesso & torn paper & layers of paint. A maya road crown mini book was the perfect template for the crown & the paper was spritzed with glimmer mist for xtra sparkle! Then I added tiny hearts & a quote from “she” by Kobi Yamada. I’m so pleased with how this came together!

One of Miss M’s top teeth has been wobbling for a few days & by this afternoon, it was hanging by a thread. It must have really bothered her, because after awhile she plucked up the courage to pull it out!

Good for you baby!

Miz Booshay: Excellent shot. I love that you can see the tooth in the bag...and the tooth that is missing!!! So great!

Christine: Awesome!!! What is the tooth fairy bringing tonight? :)

Monique Wye: I do hope that the tooth fairy arrived safely? :)

business cards

March 27, 2008

Photography has been a passionate hobby of mine for some time. This year, my goal is to take it to the next level & start photographing professionally. So, I’ve been thinking about logos, business cards & the kind of package I want to present. Yep! Obsessing about the details & being a perfectionist … & the internet is a great spot to find inspiration:

Like this fascinating post about the process of designing a logo

Like the treasure trove of business cards found here & here

Have you got a business card??

Did you DIY or have it custom made??

If you know of a great spot for getting business cards, postcards etc printed – i’d love to hear about it!

Suzannah: Go you! IO have no idea about any of the questions you asked... just wanted to say that I think it's a great idea! lend my support ( for what it's worth) and say... go you!

Miz Booshay: Here is a discussion about biz cards; http://www.flickr.com/groups/startchildphotobus/discuss/72157603964805163/ If you can't see the discussion, let me know and I will list some of the comp. they talk about.

Christine: I'm a DIYer. I used "clean-edge" cards and printed from my computer our parenting group cards. I haven't done my business cards... usually I get clients through word-of-mouth. Have fun!

gecko

There are tonnes of geckos around our house. They’re fascinating to watch & kindof cute with their big eyes & ball shapped toes. We’d be even fonder of the little critters if they didn’t have such an expensive track record frying our electrical equipment – the oven, toaster, several printers, washing machine, computer … the list goes on!

Donna Jensen: Hi - I really enjoy looking at all your lovely photos! They're so fresh and lively. I was wondering how you get that beautiful icy blue backdrop that you sometimes have on your pics? Is that a wall - or part of your editing? Woul dlike to know how to achieve that if it is an edit! Thanks Donna

Christine: Love the photo! We used to have all sorts of creatures show up when we lived down in Texas... like the scorpion in our shower & kitchen and snake in our hallway. Always an adventure!

Monique Wye: hmmmm I remember yonks ago as a single chick in a town - I kinda used to spray them as i hated them! LOL.... but now - they eat the insects so we leave them alone! We have the really clear looking ones here! :) Tho' no electrical stuff fried yet.....

Miz Booshay: Wow! What a fantastic photograph!!

local wildlife

This is one of the goannas that wanders through our house yard each day. One of the good things about having them around is they’re territorial & tend to keep the snakes away! They’re also quite fascinating to watch!

Yes it really is a camel! Our neighbours purchased several camels about 10 years ago to try & control the prickly acacia (an invasive weed). They’re in a huge paddock & you don’t often see them so I was pleased I had my camera with me today!

Monique Wye: okay - I don't know if I could handle the goanna in my yard every day! :) Hope you had a good long lense!! :) Love the camel photo!

Char Otto: Wow.....i love that "sand" cake! I thought it was too before i read it wasn't, lol!! Thats a great shot of the goanna...what lens did you use?? Hope you had a nice relaxing break over Easter ...Char...

Happy Easter!

March 23, 2008

The day started early, when the kids discovered bunny tracks & the treats in their baskets. Fortunately, they were content to sing & bounce on the trampoline outside for awhile!

Playing with the eggs was almost as much fun as eating them!

sharing his chocolate – sweet huh?!

Then the afternoon brought a sun-shower & this enormous rainbow!

Hope you had a lovely day!

Monique Wye: What great photos! and a simply STUNNING rainbow!!

Christine: What a beautiful rainbow!! The promise of God fulfilled on Easter. Happy Easter!

maggiemcdonaldphotography: The rainbow image is just stunning!

sandy & beauty

March 22, 2008

We were given these cute little pups back in November & this time, we all agreed on the names – Sandy & Black Beauty (Beauty for short).

They’re about 6 months old now, have grown so much & are full of energy! They also love cuddles & belly scratches. So when Bear fell off his bike today, Beauty was there to give him sympathy. Then later in the morning, I looked out the window & saw Bear hanging upside down from the monkey bars, giving Beauty a scratch. There’s no doubt they adore each other!

Monique Wye: gorgeous photos! :)

his cake

Was a sandcastle – a simple but brilliant idea from a donna hay magazine. All you need are 2 tubs of vanilla ice cream (the perfect bucket shape) & a packet of milk arrowroot (plain) biscuits. Crush the biscuits in a food processor & spread over the slightly softened icecream like sand. Then refreeze. Its the perfect beach party cake!

I wish i’d captured a photo of little Miss H’s face when she 1st saw it – she thought it really was a sand castle!

Master B enjoyed every moment!

We had a small but lovely party with friends. The kids swam, built sandcastles in the real sand (DH brought in with the tractor especially for the party), rode bikes, played dress-ups & cards & pin the teeth on the shark. It was indeed a perfect day – i’m sure everyone will sleep well tonite!

Rachelle: Love the cake, what a brilliant idea
